The Los Angeles skyline might not be as famous as Chicago’s or New York’s. But thanks to Hollywood and the movie business, LA’s got plenty of buildings that are instantly identifiable (regardless of whatever role they play on screen). Mandala Custom Homes was founded on the aspiration to integrate sacred spaces into everyday living. This vision is inspired by the harmony existing within round spaces found in nature and throughout human evolution.

From simple beach bungalows to ultramodern homes, Venice is truly a unique place to live. But none of these places quite capture the effervescent essence of Venice like the Mosaic Tile House.

As L.A.’s population boomed in the 1960s, many of its 19th-century buildings were demolished with the rapid urbanization that took hold. Wandering around this cluster of Victorian buildings, visitors are able to glimpse a forgotten chapter in the history of Los Angeles, back before it became the bustling city it is today. Though it’s not well known to the public, the moment you enter this large-scale artwork-in-progress structure, it’s like walking inside a coral reef. Most of the tiles are in the red, yellow, and orange spectrum, but bold colors radiate throughout the space. Almost every square inch of the home (including the outside) is covered in mosaic tiles.

We were rather surprised — given that most of the show’s contestants are Americans — to learn that the entire show was filmed in a newly developed residential building in Salford, UK. That’s because the same apartment building was used to film all the different versions of the show (The Circle UK, The Circle France and The Circle Brazil). The beautiful buildings at Heritage Square now preserve pieces of the city’s history that would have otherwise been destroyed.

You know how the opening credits show establishing shots from some of Chicago’s most iconic buildings? We briefly get to see Willis Tower and the Adler Planetarium before the camera zooms in on the building where the show’s contestants live. We were wondering the same thing, so we set out to find the apartment building from The Circle in real life — and it wasn’t all that hard. Is the building featured on the show a real condo building? And is there an actual giant circle on the exterior of the building? Love it or hate it, it's supposedly one of the most photographed buildings in the whole world. Designed in the 1970s by John C. Portman Jr., it’s wonderful inside, where there are fountains, lots of concrete, and little lounging pods. This example of Googie architecture, is one of LA's most exciting and futuristic, looking like a cross between a spacecraft from The Jetsons and some kind of intergalactic beast. The Theme Building opened at LAX in 1961; now, it's only really open on the weekends, and then, only the observation deck. The view of it is probably better than the view from it anyway.

It is formed by cutting a whole circle along a line segment passing through the center of the circle. They were engaged in March 2021 and married later that year. Stewart, having already owned teams and series spanning short tracks and NASCAR, decided to invest in drag racing. Pruett competed in Top Fuel for Tony Stewart Racing, while Stewart started dabbling in the lower division of Top Alcohol dragsters. But now the one they call "Smoke" is smoking the tires on an 11,000-horsepower NHRA Top Fuel dragster. Sure, racing is racing and Stewart has excelled at every racing discipline America has to offer, a series of crossover moves matched only by the likes of A.J. But drag racing, the one area those legends never dared to wander for more than a one-off event, is another planet.

Robert Sneed, who represents the seven protesters with backing from the Charlotte-based Coalition for Liberty, declined WFAE's request for an interview, saying his team needed more time to review East Frank's lawsuit. The dueling lawsuits are the latest flashpoint in a yearslong conflict involving protests, city council meetings, and the restaurant ultimately adding an 18-plus age limit at drag events in October. A fight between a restaurant in downtown Monroe, North Carolina, and seven protesters who opposed the restaurant's all-age drag events has moved from the sidewalk outside the establishment's front door into a federal courtroom.

Deric Kramer (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won the fifth of 21 races during the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season. He points to that trio of fans wearing the Home Depot/Eldora/NHRA merchandise, the ones waiting for him to walk over and autograph their gear. When Stewart works those ropes, he likes to don his darkest pair of sunglasses, allowing him to discreetly scan the crowd while he chats and scribbles signatures. As he describes it, he drops another old-school TV reference.

He finished first in all three quads, posting a 3.686s in the opening quad and then making the quickest run of eliminations in the final round. The season was originally scheduled for 21 races with one unannounced date. The unannounced date was anticipated to be held at I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa, Missouri and would replace the Heartland Nationals event, held at Heartland Motorsports Park in Shawnee County, Kansas, which closed because of land and tax disputes between circuit ownership and the local government.

“The Bellagio of Dragstrips” will again host its signature event, the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, with competitors in seven classes – Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock Motorcycle, Pro Mod, Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, and Constant Aviation Factory Stock – competing against one another in furious foursomes. The NHRA returns to the track in the fall for the NHRA Carolina Nationals, a key event in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. “The Bellagio of Dragstrips” will again host its signature event, the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, with competitors in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, Top Alcohol Dragster, and Top Alcohol Funny Car competing against one another in furious foursomes.

His frame is nearly 50 pounds lighter than it was at the height of his NASCAR powers, at least partially responsible for his light-footed gait as he makes his way around the NHRA paddock. But the true power behind his newfound boyish spirit is anchored by the emotion that long eluded him, when he was emotionally unmoored to the point that his tantrums were once as anticipated and feared as were his moves on the racetrack. It’s back to Charlotte for the DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals. NHRA makes its return to zMAX Dragway for the second race of the NHRA Camping World Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Race weekend fan protocols will include health screenings for fans, contactless ticketing, socially distanced grandstand seating and cashless souvenir and concession purchases. Fans and staff will also be required to wear approved face coverings at all times, except while actively eating and drinking. Limited grandstand seating will be in groups of up to six people properly socially distant from any other group.

Teams will battle it out as the championship hunt draws nearer. Smith finished as the runner-up, going 6.780 at 199.61, with Krawiec, who was seeking his 50th career win, taking third and Johnson following in fourth. "I love this place. Everybody always asks me my favorite racetrack, and without a doubt, it's this place. This facility is like none other; it's amazing, the fans are great, and luckily, we get to come here twice a year,” Hight said. (April 30, 2023) – John Force Racing swept the nitro classes on Sunday at zMAX Dragway, as Austin Prock and Robert Hight rolled to wins in Top Fuel and Funny Car, respectively, at the Circle K NHRA Four-Wide Nationals. Coming off a back-to-back victory most recently this week at Maple Grove Raceway, Force’s teammate Robert Hight, driver of the Cornwell Tools/AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, leads the Countdown to the Championship and looks to Charlotte to continue preservation of the points lead. But the multi-time champ and his team didn’t disappoint in Charlotte, rolling to the win in every quad as he collected his 63rd career Wally. It’s also his seventh career win at zMAX Dragway, which is the most for anyone in Funny Car. It was on that adjacent 1.5-mile oval that Tony Stewart won a NASCAR Cup Series race and the NASCAR All-Star Race, completed the second half of a pair of Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 one-day "Double Duty" marathons, and won a pair of pole positions in an IndyCar. The NASCAR Hall of Famer's Stewart-Haas Racing HQ is located one exit up the highway from zMax and he has even fielded wining cars on the four-tenths-mile clay oval dirt track that sits adjacent to the drag strip.

Stewart, who finished second in the Alcohol Funny Car standings in 2023, moved into her seat, despite no experience in a Top Fuel dragster -- the iconic long, skinny, winged machine that routinely travels at speeds of more than 330 mph. He has not yet earned a Top Fuel victory but has advanced to the semifinals in the past two events, both of which employ the rear four-wide format instead of the traditional one-on-one races. That's how he ended up at the drag strip in the first place, his courtship of Leah Pruett, a 17-time NHRA race winner.

The race is the sixth of 22 events in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series. Hight finished as the runner-up as he advanced to his third final round of the 2022 season. “The Get BioFuel Chevy Camaro is a fun car to drive, first and foremost, and that right there is enough to keep someone wanting to be out here. Two equal parts, each part is called a semicircular region. The area of a circle depends on the length of its radius. The area of a circle is the region enclosed inside the circle.

An arc is a part of the circle, with all its points on the circle. So, a quarter circle is a quarter of a circle, formed by splitting a circle into 4 equal parts or a semicircle into 2 equal parts. "Not being afraid to ask some of the difficult questions. We know that that does not increase or worsen the risk for suicide. It actually can save a life." If you have a loved one dealing with a mental health crisis, Dr. Zucker recommends checking in often and asking about their thoughts.

Long after either John Sowden or Dr. George Hodel lived in the house, it was renovated for new occupants. Designer Xorin Balbes purchase the home for $1.2 million in 2001 and then promptly declared it a wreck and spent an additional $1.6 million restoring it. With seven bedrooms, four baths, and about 5,600 square feet of living space, this was not a small undertaking. Balbes restored the stonework, converted the three-room kitchen into one, installed a pool and spa, and added new upscale bathrooms. Balbes also added enormous antique pieces, including an Indonesian stone Buddha, an antique Chinese dowry chest, and a 400-year-old Quan Yin statue.

Surprisingly Romantic Places in Los Angeles

For example points P, Q, and R lie in the interior of the circle. The center of a circle is the center point in a circle from which all the distances to the points on the circle are equal. Each one is uniquely designed and decorated, and the first season even prompted countless articles online ranking each apartment’s design. As for the rest of the production crew, they set up shop in the building opposite the apartments, in a former college campus.

For the house, Cheri creates the tiles, and Gonzalo shatters them and distributes them over every square inch of their home. Since 1994, the couple has been transforming their once bland, beige stucco home into the structural kaleidoscope that it exists as today. The Mosaic Tile House is still a work in process–there are still sections where it has not yet been completely covered in tiles–but what is completed is more than enough to give the average person a visual overload. What might catch your attention is a fruit tree and vegetable garden incorporated into all the tile landscaping, and a black fridge stuffed with dolls that Pann has described as the dark part of her imagination.

"It really takes time and implementation, and that often takes, you know, money and resources." She commends the new White House strategy, but says access to health care is still a huge barrier to overcome for many folks seeking mental health treatment. Looking back, she believes dialing a number to be able to have a conversation at that time could have quelled her negative thoughts. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff shared the grim numbers of the growing public health crisis. The size and layout of the apartments might be another giveaway, as European flats traditionally run smaller than their North American counterparts (with the exception of New York City, of course, where apartments are notoriously small).

The Capitol Records building in Hollywood apparently was not intended to look like stacked records but that's definitely what it looks like. The building's been around since 1956; it was designed by architect Louis Naidorf in Welton Becket's office. It was, for a while, set to be joined by two giant towers; that project is still battling to get built. A chord of a circle divides the circular region into two parts. A line segment with its endpoints lying on a circle is called the chord of the circle. All those points for which the distance is equal to that of the radius of a circle lie on the circle.

Cheri Pann and Gonzalo Duran, a husband and wife team, are responsible for this local masterpiece. Much of the design here is influenced by Lloyd Wright’s father; you can see that he borrows the elder Wright’s early 1920s textile-block construction and Mayan themes. This giant, lumpy donut atop a donut shop “represents the postwar optimism and whimsy of the city in a way few other places can,” says the LA Conservancy. Randy's, designed by Henry J. Goodwin, was made for the Big Donut Drive-In chain and was completed in 1953. The shiny towers, rotating rooftop lounge, and thrilling exterior elevators of the Bonaventure are firmly lodged in the hearts of many Angelenos.

"Today we lost some heroes who were out simply trying to keep our community safe," Jennings said. The man shooting at the officers left the home and was killed in the front yard of the home in the eastern Charlotte neighborhood.

Nearly 100 officers were shot, including 10 who were killed, in the first three months of 2024, according to a March update from The National Fraternal Order of Police. Hughes served time in prison following multiple felony convictions, including for breaking and entering, fleeing from the police and possession of a firearm, state records show. Chhoeun said he watched as one officer and then another was hit by gunfire from the rear of the brick home, and heard the frantic calls for assistance. He said two women ran outside the house, as did another man, and authorities crashed an armored vehicle through his backyard to reach the two downed officers. "He fought for several hours and passed away from his injuries with his wife and family by his side tonight," Jennings wrote on X.

Other than that, the recipes are pretty similar. Chilling the dough is imperative—otherwise the house pieces will lose shape and constructing will be impossible. The dough is a little sticky from the molasses, so I recommend chilling in two discs before rolling out. Write the name of each child on a paper plate and place the finished houses on the plates as they dry. Once the party is over, you can wrap them in plastic cling wrap and the kids can take home their creations.

Take a close look at the two-story building and you can see where visitors pulled off gumdrops or Christmas tree marshmallows and even pulled off bits of gingerbread. You can make just one for your family, or build a batch of them and throw a gingerbread house-decorating party, where each child decorates a house and takes it home at the end of the event. I gathered a few links for you to use as decorating inspiration. There are so many beautiful (and SIMPLE) decorated gingerbread houses out there. Royal icing is the “glue” that holds the house together. It’s also the glue adhering any candies to the walls and roof. As you can see in these photos, I covered the roof with royal icing before piping the buttercream on.

If having an entirely edible creation is not a priority for you, you can use a small milk carton as the base of your building. To make your house simply glue the graham crackers to the sides of the container. This will provide a sturdy base on which the kids can create their homes. Print out the template and cut out the shapes. The chimney is totally optional, but I think it’s a cute addition. Maybe blame the lack of snow in Southern California, at least at sea level. There are gingerbread houses you can look at, and then there are gingerbread houses you can walk into. The display at Fairmont San Francisco is so massive, pastry chefs need to start baking the gingerbread in July! The record for the largest gingerbread house, however, was set in 2013 in Bryan, Texas, where it seems like I’ve heard everything is bigger. This house, which came in at 39,202 cubic feet, broke the previous record held by the Mall of America in Minnesota.

Use plenty of icing to construct the house; it will act as your cement and help hold everything together. Then continue to use it to pipe decorations or glue on candies or other embellishments. Just be sure to keep the icing covered when it’s not in use. Royal icing dries quickly, so keep the surface covered with a layer of plastic wrap or store the icing in sealed piping bags. For many of us, gingerbread houses are as much a part of Christmas as decorated trees and candy canes.

Remember, gingerbread houses can never have too much confectionary bling. Next, plan to make plenty of royal icing — it’s nothing more than a basic combination of powdered sugar and egg whites. Simple as it may sound, royal icing has the strength of glue when it dries; this is no ordinary frosting.

Once it is time to decorate, set out candy and give the kids some gingerbread house decorating ideas. Each child should also have an individual plastic sandwich bag of royal icing that is tied off and has a small hole poked in one corner to use as a gluing tool for the adornments. Save yourself some of the trouble with these easy "gingerbread" houses made from graham crackers and no-cook frosting. Finally, don’t rush it — give yourself plenty of space and time.

I can’t decide if there is a “best time” to visit Mohonk Mountain House. In the late fall when I was there, the trees were still colorful and the trails were not crowded. The first conference included 50 invited participants, but years later the attendees rose to 300 leaders in government and business. ✅ A “Barn Tour” may not sound like an interesting thing to do if you’re not a horse lover, but I highly recommend it.

Brewmaster’s Weekend

To love Mohonk is to appreciate the whole experience — its gorgeous setting and natural beauty and classic take on relaxation and recreation and service. If visiting in the winter, you have access to both an indoor skating rink and indoor heated pool, among many other activities like cross-country skiing and now, tubing. Many of the rooms have working fireplaces, and I wish it would have been cold enough for me to have needed a fire. For a quick history of the Mohonk Mountain House, it all began in 1869, when Albert Smiley paid $28,000 for a lake and 300 acres of rocky land that included a modest 10-room tavern.

Spring Family Fun Week

There's a sign-in and key card entry system but there is no lifeguard so kids need to be minded. I can only imagine how wonderful it is to stay here-we only we’re here for the day. If you book a spa treatment you have the run of the place except for the pool. Spring and summer bring their own special activities, including boating and swimming in the lake.

Events

Mohonk Mountain House consists of several wedding ceremonies and reception sites to meet your every wedding request. For your dream ceremony, you have the option of their formal gardens, mountain view gardens, and their main indoor venue, the Victorian Parlor. Mohonk Mountain House's reception spaces include the West Dining Room, East Dining Room, Sky Lake Conference House, Picnic Lodge, and Parlor Porch. Furthermore, each reception venue has a fantastic atmosphere and can be customized to fit your wedding needs.

Add to this a host of spa services, exercise classes and special programs, and a family will never want for something to do. Fixtures, carpeting, furniture and decor are either original or reproduction period pieces comfortably arranged in vast public spaces and the dozens of cozy nooks throughout the seven-story hotel. Hallways serve as a kind of vertical scrapbook, with photographs, paintings, maps, textiles, news clippings, floor plans and artifacts of the hotel’s history and geography, worthy of taking the time to review. Our Main Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, plus weekend brunch. On our fall visit to Mohonk, we took a late-morning tour that filled us in on the history of Mohonk and its founding family, the Smileys, who still own and operate the hotel. The talk began in the lovely Lake Lounge, the hotel’s social center, flanked on two sides by a porch lined with rocking chairs. Mohonk now is very much an all-seasons resort, and each has its pleasures. My wife, Laurel, and I visited in June for the third time since October.

With some midweek, off-season exceptions, Mohonk is a full-American-plan hotel, so three meals are included in the daily charge. We enjoyed them even more on our June visit, when we walked through the gardens planted with peonies, rhododendron, roses, impatiens, miniature lilacs, iris, geraniums and Russian sage. We visited the Barn Museum, chock-a-block with farm equipment, ice-cutting tools and carriages once used at Mohonk. Since our founding in 1869, wellness has been an essential part of the Mohonk experience. We carry that tradition forward today in our beautiful natural setting, offering a sampler of experiences that support resilience and sustainable self-care. We’ve gathered some of the most skilled illusionists and variety acts of our generation to create a weekend that is jam-packed with unforgettable experiences for all ages.

She enjoys exploring the back roads of the USA and uncovering stories about unique destinations, cultures and almost-forgotten history. Mohonk Mountain House is listed in the Historical Hotels of America, an official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation that recognizes the finest historic hotels. Trying to “relax” is usually a chore for me, but walking the trails and absorbing the calming spirit of Mohonk made this resort a very special place for me. I really appreciate how visitors are encouraged to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind. I know that the high price of Mohonk makes it impossible for some people to spend the night, but they do offer a Day Pass that is affordable so you can experience the trails and views. The abundant natural trails and emphasis on Nature reminded me of my time on Monhegan Island in Maine.

PricingMohonk's room rates have gone up quite a bit from the early days when a night's stay cost $3. Prices start at around $250 per person for a standard room on a weekday; add $165 for kids age 12 or older and $94 for 5 to 12 year olds (kids under five stay free). A 15 percent gratuity is added to the bill though staff won't refuse additional cash tips. Sunday brunch is especially bountiful (and popular with many day visitors), with offerings including salmon and shrimp and a dozen or so desserts including those silly messy chocolate fountains that kids love.

The Granary is also open during the nice weather months, offering an outdoor cookout experience that is near the small beach area. Check-in at Mohonk Mountain House begins at 4pm and check-out is at 12pm. A valid government-issued photo ID and major credit card are required upon check-in. Guests can arrive early on property to enjoy a full day of resort activities.

Lake Mohonk is a glacial lake, fed from sky water, not from nearby streams. The lake is stocked with trout (perch, sunnys, bass, and pickerel can also be found). There is swimming at the beach, and guests enjoy canoeing, boating, and paddle boats. Dotting the majestic cliffs and the carriage roads are over 125 scenic summerhouses, a mainstay of the Mohonk experience since the early days.

He'll also share some remarkable facts about the earliest days of this fabulous historic destination. The walls in all of the public areas and the hallways are covered with original art, paintings and vintage photos. Even though I’m not a huge art lover, I enjoyed walking the halls and see the many different pieces of amazing art and old pictures. Since the inception of Mohonk Mountain House, the Smiley family has been committed to sustaining the natural environment and engaging with thought-leaders from around the globe on various issues of importance for the time. There is no single architectural style reflected in the sections of the Mountain House. Using various materials (stone was an early favorite due to concerns about fire safety), they contribute to an eclectic mix of styles that helps achieve the near magical look of Mohonk Mountain House. Albert purchased the tavern and the surrounding acres with $14,000 in savings, $300 contributed by his wife Eliza, and a $14,000 bank loan.

Getting ThereMohonk is easily accessible by car and is about 90 miles from New York City (which New Yorkers will tell you can take a couple of hours or twice as long depending on city traffic). Kids can order from the menu or enjoy the kids' buffet, where there are variations on the kid-friendly staples that any parent knows too well. If your kids do opt for the buffet (seems most do) you may want to manage the pacing a bit so that they're not finished and antsy to go before you've finished your soup. Breakfast and lunch are buffets and dinner is a four-course affair with reserved seating times. Dinner at Mohonk is, if not a dress-up occasion, at least a "dress decent" occasion. They are helped in this by sturdy supporting performances by Delaney, Donald Moffat and Julie Harris as Newt's parents, and by Richard B. Shull and Laurel Cronin as a couple of street people who are pressed into service as Gwen's parents. It is certainly true that much of the humor in "Housesitter" is generated by the carefully modulated performances of Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. Their relationship is made of nuances and denials, and at any moment they could have brought the movie tumbling down to the level of a sitcom, but they never do. Dana Delany, who plays architect Steve Martin’s hard-to-please squeeze in Housesitter, must be the only person in America not impressed with his dream house. A young college student takes a job as a house sitter and ends up in a deadly game of hide and seek. A rare, expertly orchestrated romantic comedy confection.

Newton Davis (Steve Martin) is a struggling architect. After building his dream house for himself and his longtime girlfriend Becky (Dana Delany) in his hometown, he is crushed when she refuses to marry him. He is unable to bring himself to live in the house, and leaves it abandoned and with a debt he cannot afford. Three months later, Newton meets a waitress named Gwen (Goldie Hawn) at a Hungarian restaurant in Boston. Believing that she cannot speak English, he spills out his sob story about Becky and the abandoned house. After the restaurant closes for the night, Newton learns she merely pretended to be Hungarian, and can speak English.

But Hawn's performance is the keystone of the movie, and she is wonderful as Gwen, who hardly ever says anything that is quite the truth. The way she modulates her feelings - making her emotional state clear without telegraphing it and without going for laughs that would ruin the underlying drama - is subtle and effective. The genius of the film is that Newt immediately becomes attracted by the idea of extending the lies, in order to get what he wants - a promotion, and the love of Delaney. They will pretend to a phony marriage, stage a phony divorce, and manipulate and cheat the fates. The film house was a set and torn down; our house was bought and badly renovated, so really both are lost. The main difference between the movie house and ours is the center feature of our house was the two-story fireplace not an opening to the kitchen, and we also had a garage.

As Newton and Gwen go into the house together, the final spoken words are of Newton saying "I love you, Gwen" and Gwen replying, "Actually, it's Jessica." Martin plays Newt Davis, an architect who has designed his dream house and in the opening credits asks his childhood sweetheart (Dana Delaney) if she will marry him and move into it. Heartbroken, he blurts out his sorrows one boozy night to a waitress named Gwen (Goldie Hawn), whose last name and most of the other facts about her are much in doubt during the film.

He walks her home, which turns out to be a small apartment upstairs at the restaurant. The next morning, Gwen finds that Newton left in the middle of the night. However, he unintentionally left behind the drawing of the house he'd built for Becky. Interest piqued by the drawing, Gwen takes a bus ride out to see the house.

After building his dream house, architect Newton Davis proposes marriage to his girlfriend, only to be summarily rejected. He seeks solace in a one-night stand with a waitress, never imagining that a woman he slept with once would end up posing as his wife. Gwen's ruse is so effective that by the time Newton learns of his "marriage," the entire town feels like they know him.

Gwen storms out of the house in tears, and Newton follows her, thinking it is still part of the plan. Outside alone, Newton praises Gwen for her brilliance, but Gwen replies that she wanted their marriage to work. Becky takes the opportunity to make a move on Newton, and asks whether all of Gwen's elaborate stories were real. Newton answers that they were all true and chases after Gwen.

Ratings and reviews

Gwen goes to the town's general store, where she charges her groceries to the "Newton Davis" account. When questioned about this, Gwen, who it becomes clear is a natural liar, says that she is Newton's wife. Gwen meets Becky, and spins a lengthy romantic story about how they fell in love, which surprises and impresses Becky. Gwen also meets Newton's parents, who are heartbroken that Newton got "married" without telling them, but Gwen manages to smooth things over with them with her charm. The film culminates with a reception held at the house in which the sub-plots of Newton's career, family and affections for Becky are brought together. Annoyed with Becky for her superior and suspicious attitude, Gwen confronts her in front of everyone, accusing her of trying to win Newton back.

Housesitter is a 1992 American romantic comedy film directed by Frank Oz, written by Mark Stein, and starring Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. The premise involves a woman with con-artist tendencies who worms her way into the life of a reserved architect by claiming to be his wife. Learning of the new house, sitting empty and forlorn in a quaint little village, Gwen takes a bus there, introduces herself around town as Newt's wife, and furnishes the place, on credit. By the time Newt is horrified to discover her deception, Gwen has succeeded in making friends of Newt's parents and his former love.

”It taps a memory bank,” says architect Debra Wassman, who did the design with husband Jonathan Lanman. And [the house plan] is available by mail from New York’s Trumbull Architects. Martin is very good here; in movies like "Parenthood" and "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" he has developed into a sort of upper-middle-class American everyman, crazy on the inside, normal on the outside, needy all over. Newton stops Gwen as she is about to board a bus to leave town. Although she resists, Newton follows her example and begins telling an outlandish romantic story of something they "did", which makes Gwen decide to stay. The film ends on the note of Newton and Gwen being happily married and living together in the house.
